LUANG PRABANG, Laos — Villa Maly, a boutique hotel in the old royal capital, is greeting Songkran with a 3-night stay package that is guaranteed to keep visitors sheltered but not dry.

During the Lao New Year, known locally as Songkran, the streets of Luang Prabang fill with revelers for days on end. Celebrants greet the new year, and unsuspecting travelers with water strewn from buckets, sprayed from hoses and encased in balloons.
“Everybody knows they’ve got to get to Luang Prabang at least once in their life, and I would say the same thing of Songkran – you’ve got to experience it at least once,” said Axel de Boynes, general manager of the Villa Maly.
