Metropole Wins Awards from US Media

HANOI, Vietnam — The Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi found favor last month with the two most prestigious travel magazines in North America, winning spots on Travel + Leisure’s and Condé Nast Traveler’s top hotel awards list – the T+L 500 and the Gold List, respectively.

The awards capped a year of winning ways for the hotel, firming up the storied property’s standing as one of Asia’s premier hotels. In all, the Metropole garnered 21 awards in 2012, including:

•    Best Hotel in Hanoi, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific
•    Reader’s Choice Awards, Condé Nast Traveler
•    Top Ten City Hotels, Travel + Leisure
•    101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World (Le Beaulieu), The Daily Meal

“It used to be we were simply trying to satisfy our guests’ expectations,” said Kai Speth, the hotel’s general manager. “Now we’re trying to satisfy their dreams.”

In December, Condé Nast Traveler announced its 2013 Gold List. Only two hotels in Vietnam, the Metropole and the Park Hyatt, made the grade on that list.

The Gold List is similar to the magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards, in which more than 47,000 readers rate favorite hotels across a number of metrics from the food and dining experience to location, design, rooms and service.

Also in December, Travel + Leisure elevated the Metropole onto the T+L 500 (there were 510 hotels on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List). Only three hotels from Vietnam earned spots on this list: the Metropole, The Nam Hai and the Park Hyatt.
