Metropole Hanoi Unveils Mooncake Collection

HANOI – To celebrate the annual Mid-Autumn festival, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is launching their legendary mooncake collection at L’Epicerie du Metropole from Aug. 29 to Oct. 4.

This season’s gourmet highlights include seven delectable mooncakes ranging from classic creations such as Traditional Mix, Lotus Seed and Young Rice, and Black Sesame with Coconut to more modern reinventions such as Green Bean and Dried Apricot with salted egg yolk, and Caramel with Dried Fig and Candied Orange.

For those that prefer unique flavours, the Metropole is introducing two new twists on the festive treat: Pistachio and Chocolate as well as the exotic Durian mooncake. In keeping with Vietnamese tradition, some cakes are formed in the shape of a carp, a fish that represents the soul of the moon.

While the exact proportions and nature of the ingredients used for the filling are a closely guarded secret, all of the Metropole’s mooncakes are handmade by Executive Sous Chef Nguyen Thanh Van and her team and contain no preservatives.

“The trick in creating the Metropole’s coveted mooncakes is to get the pastry just right. It should be light and delicate, but strong enough to withstand the baking process,” said Chef Van Nguyen.

A classic box set contains four large mooncakes (weighing 250g each) and four assorted flavours and is priced at 1,990,000 VND. A tasting set contains six mini mooncakes (weighing 100g each) and six assorted flavours and is priced at 1,790,000 VND.

This year, the Metropole is also offering 100 limited edition VIP gift box sets, containing six large mooncakes as well as a bottle of 2015 Château le Grand Verdus, Bordeaux Supérieur. Each VIP mooncake set is beautifully presented inside a royal blue gift box with gold trim, and features a ceramic seal and the Metropole’s logo.

One of the biggest national holidays in Vietnam, the Mid-Autumn Festival – or Tet Trung Thu – is a colourful, exciting festival revolving around children. It’s celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month in the traditional East Asian lunar calendar, which falls on Oct. 4 in the Gregorian calendar this year.

The Metropole’s mooncakes are available for sale at L’Epicerie du Metropole from Aug. 29 to Oct. 4 during the hours of 7:30a.m. to 9:30p.m., daily. For reservations, please contact Ms. Hang – L’Epicerie Manager and her team at +84 24 3933 5224 or email h1555-fb3@sofitel.com.
