Breakaway in Siem Reap

Fronted by 15 acres of lawns, orchards and gardens, Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor has 119 rooms and suites. Designed by architect Ernest Hébrard in French colonial style and opened in 1932, the hotel’s interior combined Khmer art and furnishings with Art Deco influences such as black and white marble floors and a celebrated wrought iron elevator in the lobby. The Grand hosted many of the early archeologists and foreign explorers to the site of Angkor Wat, as well as celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin, French President Charles de Gaulle, and Jacqueline Kennedy. It was taken over in 1997 by Fairmont Raffles Hotels International at the invitation of Cambodia’s King Sihanouk, along with its sister heritage hotel, Le Royal in Phnom Penh. The hotel is currently undergoing a major renovation and its new look is due to be unveiled in October 2019.
