Chedi Sakala Lures MICE, Wedding Travelers

BALI, Indonesia (March 31, 2014) — Luxury hotel management company GHM has opened the doors on a property in Nusa Dua that, for the irst time, melds the elegance of the group’s boutique appeal with purpose-built facilities for large-scale conferences and weddings.

From the resort’s cozy kul kul towers overlooking the Indian Ocean to the spacious Chedi Ballroom, the venues cater to groups with inclinations from the intimate to the grand.

“I’ve been in the hotel business a long time, and I can’t remember ever seeing a resort with such a wide variety of meeting spaces,” said Evan Pavlakis, general manager of The Chedi Sakala.

The most expansive venue is the 630-square-meter ballroom, which can accommodate up to 400 people.

Located two floors below the resort’s all-day dining restaurant, it is fitted with adjustable ambient lighting and state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment.

The room’s dark tones and large, intricate carvings of traditional Balinese motifs echo the island destination’s singular allure.

“So often, when the doors close on an indoor gathering of any kind, you feel as if you could anywhere,” said Pavlakis. “Not here. The design flourishes disclose a sense of place without being a distraction.”

The Chedi Ballroom can be partitioned into as many as six smaller rooms with ample breakout space for light refreshment and informal conversation.

Two of those spaces — the Batur and Agung rooms, named after Bali’s two highest peaks — each cover 147 square meters and can hold up to 175 people, depending on the seating plan. They can also be combined to double the capacity.

For its array of venues, The Chedi Sakala is also positioned to attract all manner of wedding ceremonies and celebrations.

The signature ‘water wedding’ features a transparent stage fitted across the resort’s Olympic-size, oceanfront infinity pool, giving everyone the sense of walking on water and enabling the bride to make the most spectacular of entrances.

A few steps down, Tanjung Benoa Beach can be set up to provide the platform for a service for up to 200 guests, while the immediate poolside area is spacious enough to entertain 350 for a buffet-style reception.

Those who wish to exchange vows from heights, or like the idea of hosting a rooftop party, can book one of two sprawling sky decks, which overlook the pool, beach and ocean.

Each deck bridges the gap between two kul kul towers, a traditional Balinese structure reminiscent in form and function to a Western church steeple. Each tower features a room designed for small private dinners or meetings.

One deck is directly above The Sakala Bali, which adds another compelling dimension to the MICE possibilities. TripAdvisor reviewers consistently rate the sophisticated yet comfortable 80-seat eatery among the top gourmet restaurants on Bali.

The third GHM hotel to open on Bali, The Chedi Sakala is located half an hour from the international airport in Denpasar and 10 minutes from the island’s largest convention center.
