HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam (March 14, 2019)— In the old days, it used to be that international carriers only cared about shuttling travelers into Saigon and Hanoi. Airports across the country added ‘International’ to their name, but that was always a matter of wishful thinking. London really wasn’t all that keen on opening a direct line into Hue via Phu Bai International Airport. But then Danang started attracting international traffic, and now, airlines are casting far and wide to open new routes into Vietnam’s emerging destinations.
In January, Bangkok Airways jumped on the Cam Ranh bandwagon, joining the likes of carriers winging in direct from the Seoul, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. (See more detail on Cam Ranh here.) In April, Air Asia is opening a new route between Kuala Lumpur and Can Tho on the Mekong Delta. And in May, Air Asia will start transporting travelers from Bangkok to Can Tho.
