SIEM REAP, Cambodia – With Cambodia’s Angkor Archaeological Park dominating bucket lists the world over, Anantara Angkor Resort has introduced ‘Breakfast at Angkor’ to help travellers beat the crowds in a truly unique, indulgent new experience.
On the five-star resort’s new, off-the-beaten-track tour, a veteran guide with an encyclopedic knowledge of and special access to the UNESCO World Heritage Site ushers guests to secluded vantage points to watch the day break over the awe-inspiring temples.
With more than two million tourists descending annually on the site, home to the iconic Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon temples, the resort’s new experience answers the call for an exclusive, one-of-a-kind experience.
Under the cover of darkness at 4:30 a.m., the hotel transports guests by private car or tuk-tuk from Siem Reap’s Anantara Angkor to a temple complex that encompasses more than 400 square kilometres and relics of the Khmer Empire that date back as far as the 9tth century.
Flashlight in hand, the expert guide escorts guests through the darkened temple compound via a secret shortcut, bypassing the scores of people already queuing to see Angkor Wat as the sun’s first rays emerge.
After sunrise, guests repair to one of the more secluded temples close to Angkor Wat where a personal butler is waiting to serve freshly squeezed juice, coffee or tea, an array of tropical fruits and freshly baked pastries.
Over breakfast, the guide provides additional background on life in Siem Reap, the history of Angkor, and the wonders of nearby Tonle Sap Lake, where locals dwell in a floating village and fish the mangrove waterways. Because ‘Breakfast At Angkor’ includes an all-day pass, guests are free to explore more temple ruins before returning to the resort.
‘Breakfast At Angkor’ tours including an English speaking guide, breakfast, a one-day ticket to the Angkor Archaeological Park and transport to and from the site start at USD 115++ for one guest and USD 135++ for two guests.
Editor’s Note
For hundreds of years throughout Thailand, people would leave a jar of water outside their house to provide refreshment and extend a welcome to the passing traveller. Anantara is taken from an ancient Sanskrit word that means ‘without end’, symbolising this sharing of water and the heartfelt hospitality that lies at the core of every Anantara experience.
From lush jungles to pristine beaches and legendary deserts to cosmopolitan cities, Anantara currently boasts over 30 stunning properties located in Thailand, the Maldives, Bali, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Mozambique and Zambia; with future properties to open Sri Lanka, China, Malaysia, Laos, Oman, Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and Morocco.
