HO CHI MINH CITY (April 2, 2019) — Rare is the hotel that isn’t an adherent to that famous Ken Kesey maxim: “Always stay in your own movie.”
Spend tens of millions — or more — on a luxury hotel or resort, and showing it off in fine fashion is a mere drop in the bucket.
Video is where hotels strut their stuff, flaunt their wares and lure guests toward an audition, for who doesn’t want to be in that movie?
They seduce in different ways. Some leverage a minimalist approach. Others go epic with drones. Most sell the destination to varying degree. And others reveal a bit of their personality with their approach to storytelling.
Across Asia, hotels bait the hook in different ways, but bait it is. Be careful with that credit card.

All the key elements of this expansive resort are captured in a montage of scenes that take viewers on a journey of what they’d experience during their time there. The hotel’s innovative spa treatments like an ayurvedic barefoot healing massage, where feet rather than hands are used to ease tension in the back; the tranquil yoga pavilion, where meditation and yoga are offered overlooking a lotus pond; as well as the new villas, Breeze restaurant, and the expansive pool at The Hideaway – a resort within a resort are all part of the story. Culinary options from breakfast anytime, anywhere to a private dinner on the beach round out the voyage.

The parameters of this video are clearly defined. A teppanyaki chef lays a piece of fish on a hotel steel plate, cooks it, cuts it, removes it to banana leaves, dresses it with wasabi, and then pushes it toward the viewer. What’s most remarkable is the sizzle of the fish, the intensity of the chef, and the incredible focus of this short story.

Some hotels try to persuade you of a certain ambiance, and this one goes a long way toward making you feel, no matter where you’re from, that the hotel is a lot like home. The music is sentimental and tracks visits by four different parties, each engaged in their own drama.

This music and collage feels like the preface to a grand story that takes place partly in the hotel, and that is going to change someone’s life forever. This video suggests that life is lived on a very deep level here. The imagery is lush and refined, the pictured people very focused and the destination highly romantic.
